What does LASEK Laser Eye Surgery involve?
LASEK Laser Eye Surgery involves a local anaesthetic being applied to the eye. The trephine is then used to cut into the outer layer of the eye or epithelium. The incision is made so as to create a flap. A dilute alcohol solution is then applied to the eye. The flap is then lifted to create room for a laser to operate and reshape the corneal tissue below. Once the reshaping is complete the flap is put back into its original position.
In order to stabilise the epithelium a protective contact lens is applied.
The protective contact lens is usually removed three to four days following LASEK Laser Eye Treatment.
